Overview

As a partner with Nyhan, James Toomey (he/him) concentrates his practice in workers’ compensation and civil litigation. After trying hundreds of matters before the Commission on behalf of injured workers, Jim now utilizes his experience to provide a clear picture to employers, insurers, and third party administrators of potential exposure. He then develops strategies to limit exposure and effectuate cost-effective closure of claims.

In addition to representing employers in Illinois, Jim has an active practice handling work injuries in Indiana. While the practice in Indiana is quite different, Jim has adapted strategies to push causes to resolution, and represents employers and providers attempting to procure payment for work-related medical services.

Jim enjoys the challenges of complex claims involving subrogation issues and large exposures, identifying all potential issues and providing options for his clients to choose the best course of action. That said, Jim provides the same focus on the end-game on smaller claims, and prides himself on getting his opponents’ attention on matters to close them quickly.

In his free time, Jim navigates shuttling four children to various sporting events and after-school activities, and is the Cubmaster for Pack 887 in Naperville. He also supports his local professional sporting teams to a fault.
