Brian Raterman Honored on Chicago Lawyer’s 2023 40 Under Forty Roster
Nyhan is proud to announce that Brian Raterman has been recognized as one of Chicago Lawyer’s 40 Under Forty attorneys for 2023.
Brian’s recognition is a testament to his multifaceted abilities and unwavering commitment to the legal field. He concentrates his practice on workers’ compensation defense, civil defense, and subrogation disputes. His multi-pronged defense strategies demonstrate his skills as a young but seasoned lawyer.
As a partner with more than 10 years in the field, Brian has extensive experience representing a variety of clientele including self-insured corporations, high-deductible organizations, small businesses, and insurance companies across all industries and manages their cases from initial investigations to the appellate process, when needed.
Brian’s proactive approach paired with his swift thinking and a composed demeanor plays a pivotal role in his courtroom agility. His clients value and appreciate his capacity to adapt his strategies effectively to their benefit, while his opponents and peers give praise to his preparedness, patience, and professionalism.
In addition to the recollections of Andrew Domin, Partner at Minkow Domin Trial Attorneys, and Marc Parker, Commissioner at the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission, featured in the Chicago Lawyer profile, Brian received further acclaim from peers and opponents alike including:
“Brian hits all the marks in terms of both fighting for his clients and demonstrating courtesy for his opponents. I’d be remiss not to mention his respect for the bar, the law, and tribunal. Because of this, he’s highly respected in turn by his opponents and arbitrators. Not only does he advocate for his client, but he does so respectfully and collaboratively.” – Ronald Cobb, Partner at Lusak and Cobb P.C.
“I was really impressed with how he handled jury selection and was able to ask questions to uncover biased jurors, while also connecting with the group and implicitly highlighting important aspects of our case, even in one of his first jury trials. […] I learned a lot from Brian over the years as he has a unique and valuable way of understanding and dissecting legal issues to get to the core of cases. There are few attorneys who are better at talking strategy than Brian.” – Michael Mead, Plaintiff Attorney at Faklis, Tallis, and Mead
Brian’s contributions extend beyond the courtroom as he dedicates himself to Nyhan and the legal community. He serves as the Chair of Nyhan’s Charitable Committee, leading a dedicated team of attorneys in identifying and organizing local opportunities for the firm to support and also chairs the firm’s Appellate Department, underscoring his skillset in the trial and appellate courts.
In the legal community, he is a member of the Center for Disability and Elder Law’s Young Professionals Board, supporting the organization’s mission to provide free legal services to low-income seniors and persons with disabilities. He is also a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association and is the Past-President of the Chicago Bar Association’s Worker’s Compensation Committee.
We congratulate Brian on this well-deserved honor.
