Overview
Edward C. Abramson (he/him) focuses his practice on workers’ compensation, utilizing an expansive background in labor and employment law, asset recovery and probate, and general civil litigation. Edward has served in both private practice and public service roles, representing clients before state, municipal, and federal bodies, including hearings, investigations, mediations, settlements, and administrative appeals.
Edward has significant experience in probate litigation and administration, representing clients in matters involving domestic and international heirship, inheritance disputes, and the recovery of unclaimed assets. His work often involved collaborating with local counsel, estate administrators, and public entities across jurisdictions to resolve cross-border probate issues.
Prior to joining Nyhan, Edward serviced clients primarily in the temporary staffing, transportation, and health care industries on a variety of issues ranging from managing employment-based visa applications, litigating restrictive covenants through injunctive proceedings, and formulating new company policies, procedures, and handbooks. Through his private practice working with the Cook County Public Administrator on a high-volume probate docket, he connected with other local offices and was appointed to serve as Special Assistant State’s Attorney and, later, Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County, where he prosecuted building and zoning code violations and oversaw the office’s probate cases, playing a key role in resolving longstanding matters.
He also has experience in workplace regulations for union and nonunion environments, employment litigation, and has represented clients in matters such as workers’ compensation liens, contract disputes, insurance defense, unemployment benefits, and cargo claims.
